China In 2004, Gibson opened a factory in Qingdao, China, which manufactures Epiphone guitars. It is said those guitars were made in Indonesia under license from Unsung Korea. There is a controversial Epiphone guitar using 'LU' serial number. Ltd., established in 1970 in Busan, South Korea. Here's a picture of a bass from their current range. After 1996, Epiphones were built by the Peerless Guitars Co. The only Peerless instruments I've seen in real life were guitars. The factory and the brand have a good reputation, and Peerless instruments sell for quite a bit of money these days.ĭid you see the Peerless semi-hollow bass on Ebay? From memory they made some semi-hollow Epiphones, and I've seen it claimed that some early models of Vintage (brand) semi-hollow guitars were made in the Peerless factory. As well as producing instruments under their own brand, they have also made instruments on behalf of other brands. Peerless is a brand owned by a Korean company, which among occasional other instruments tended to specialise in semi-hollow instruments. I must have missed out - I have never heard of them
